just wanted to do a quick share of my cousin Diana's pictures from the wedding. she also served as my hair and makeup artist too...how lucky am I do have her with me all day long???
Thank you Di for playing a part in my big day!!
my dad lovingly named each one:
Teri had the spaghetti hair.
Alexandra had the eggroll hair.
and Jeanine's...well I don't remember hers.
we were supposed to be acting natural. how are we supposed to do that??
and that's the back half of my dress I'm carrying. looking back, the train was pretty darn long! I kept stepping on it throughout the day. I'd try to take a step and couldn't...it's because I was standing on my veil and train!
I'm so glad the girls went along with it. it's much more me, if you know what I mean.
Mike and I with the Pon family. my mom and dad and brother are on the ends.
the Pons are from my mom's side of the family. (my mom is standing next to her sister Agnes and my Uncle Bill).
We've started to spend more time with them over the last few years...my parents at least. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Chinese New Year...holiday get-togethers with them are filled with SOOOO much food. Mike went one year for Christmas Eve and still talks about all the stuff we had to eat. Thai curry, fried turkey wings, lo mai fan (chinese sticky rice), stuffed Chinese eggplant, eggrolls...the list goes on. or rather, I can't remember it all.
the married couple serves tea to relatives...we chose to serve to our parents, Mike's grandmother, and our aunts and uncles only, since there are way too many cousins.
Once we serve the tea, we receive red envelopes and gold jewelry as gifts. The red envelopes will have money inside and the jewelry can be family heirlooms that are passed from generation to generation. My auntie Agnes is giving me a gold bangle.
there's a better view of the Chinese dress I'm wearing too. only cost me $100!! not the best quality fabric, but I'm only wearing it once!
I was supposed to change back into it later in the reception, but there was no way I could sit down. There are high slits on both sides, but I would've had to hike the thing up to my neck.
That's it peeps. so much for quick. I must have commentary when I post.
off to the beach for a few hours with my brother. He's not in school anymore...dropped his Chem class from hell the other day. I've got the day off, so why not enjoy!
cuz I have one right now, all thanks to our wonderful, fantabulous, future professional photographer, awesome friend Cindy.
she knew we were home from our honeymoon (and I just got off the phone with her) and posted what pictures she had proofed from our wedding.
and can I say, holy guacamole??
I don't know which one is my favorite. maybe it's this one. or this one. but this one comes in pretty close. and this one catches me gettin' my freak on. and apparently I have a dance face too. and now that I think about it, my brother has the same face. it must be in the blood.
aw hell, just look at all of them. you'll be amazed. I surely am. Can't wait to see the rest of them...
Cindy, you're the best. :)
It's just a little after 1am on the 14th and Mike and I are still up. The shuttle that's taking us to the airport is coming at 2:45. And that's AM. We just finished packing a few minutes ago, and considering we only started to pack a few HOURS ago, we're done.
excuse me if I don't make much sense. Still tired from the night before.
The wedding was great, beautiful, full of tears of joy. Started right on time and there were so many people there.
The reception was beautiful and started ahead of schedule. For an Asian wedding, that's almost unheard of. Don't know who cracked the whip, but hallelujah for that.
The ballroom looked fantastic, the flowers and cake perfect, better than I imagined. I actually did get to eat 4 courses of the 8 course meal, and ended up wearing my wedding gown most of the night.
It's all pretty surreal. The next morning, Mike woke up and the first words out of his mouth...good morning Mrs. Lieu.
I can't say that it feels any different, but there's an extra ring on my finger and a new ring on Mike's. I have to get used to holding his left hand now...there's a little extra bulk there.
I wish I could've taken pictures myself, of my perspective and of Mike's, but what matters as that the memories are in our heads and in our hearts. However, you can check out Cindy and Linda's blogs for a glimpse of our day.
Thanks to each and every person that shared this day with us, whether you were hands on and a part of the process, or a guest having a good time.
to our parents and our brothers and sister, thank you for your part. you know what you did to make this day possible.
the wedding party. we would've been lonely up there without you. but you all looked great and smashing.
to my husband Mike....our future begins now. I can't wait. I love you.
is it 15 hours left? or less?
I don't even know...but all I know is that tomorrow afternoon, we'll be a Mister and a Missus.
today we bought flowers in LA...and they are for the most part done. We had a good sized crew going. 34 centerpieces finished. 4 bouquets. 35 boutinierres (spelled wrong of course). 1 unity candle arrangement. 2 large ones for the church. 1 for the Holy Mary. 2 for the pews. Lots and lots of GREEN.
working on typing up the seating arrangement now. Schedule for the day finished yesterday.
checked into the hotel this afternoon. brought ALL the dresses over. hung THE dress in the bathroom, with the veil cascading down. Chinese dress hanging in the closet too.
I can't believe it people....
do you feel me?
BRB on Sunday for a possible recap.
I love Michael. and he loves me.
see ya'll on the flip side.
we're officially in full wedding mode :)
first things first, picked up my dress today.
it's all pressed and steamed and hopefully wrinkle-free. I used my brother's CRV to take the dress home. it laid across the back seat and then onto the floor.
yup that's how long the thing is. you can't even see the entire bag in the picture. there's still a bit more lying on the floor. I don't have a place high enough to hang the dress, so it may have to stay where it is for now.
Mike will have to fight the urge to peek, but he usually doesn't have a problem with that. it's me with the peeking problem.
did a bunch of other stuff today: mailed off a bunch of goodies to Heidi, Deanna, and Cheryl, dropped off a check and request for copies of our marriage license at the church and did some shopping and returns at South Coast Plaza.
Returned some shoes to Nordstrom Rack and also picked up earrings for my bridesmaids, then walked over to Old Navy to buy some swim suits for our Hawaiian honeymoon. At South Coast, I exchanged a set of ling-ger-ree at Victoria's Secret for a smaller size, but they didn't have the style anymore. So I ended up getting something different (hot pink baby!!) and even bought another set with the gift card my Auntie Lily and cousins Alexandra and Katrina gave me.
I now have enough ling-ger-ree to wear a new set every night of the honeymoon....AND enough new, cute underwear to wear every day as well!! now how is that for some excitement?! Mike will enjoy I'm sure ;)
(Cindy, thanks to you, we are now addicted to the stuff. it will literally last us 2 to 3 days...)
on the menu for dinner tonight?: roast duck (my Mom bought this on Sunday), vegetable dumplings (boiled then fried), and "bun buc loc"s. I completely and totally butchered that last one, because it's a Vietnamese dish and I don't speak Vietnamese. It's more or less shrimp and a little bit of meat inside a rice flour dumpling, then it's wrapped in a leaf and steamed. You eat it with fish sauce (stinky, but it's an acquired thing). Mike also made his classic spinach-and-shrimp-meatball soup. I love dinners in, especially when we prepare, eat and clean up together. we'll have lots more time to do that in the future...
now on to the good part....the presents!!
part of my shopping trip today was to buy Mike a little something for our wedding day. I had something in mind, so I set out to find it. I didn't really know how much I was going to spend, but I knew I wanted something nice. so I chose this. It's quite a bit, but it'll last a long time. and I got this one because there's a matching one for me too.... :)
little did I know, Mike did a little shopping for me too. I luh-uve massages, especially foot and calf ones after a long day at work. Mike is usually pretty giving when I ask for one, but he doesn't do them as strong and as long as I like them. A while back we were out and about at the Irvine Spectrum and stopped into Brookstone to have a look. That's when I came across my answer to tired, achey legs. and my dear husband-to-be got me one.
I'm about to bust that baby open and fall asleep in it. just let me work another 3-12 hours shifts and I'm set.
and if you haven't already noticed, we DID exchange gifts early...it's only 9 days early. my excuse?? I want Mike to wear it on our wedding day, so he needs to get it sized beforehand. I'm not sure what Mike's excuse is, but no matter. I'm working tomorrow, so I can for sure use it then :)
waiting for surprises?? just not my thing.
oh yeah, the blanket was thrown in more or less for free with Mike's purchase. he said it cost another penny, so why not? and it's super soft too.
so that makes for a lovely, lovely day. I got a lot done, had dinner with Mike and got to open presents. what more could one ask for???
My bridal shower on Saturday was a success, and I think everyone had a really nice time. A HUGE thanks goes to Jeanine, Teri and Erin for hostessing the bridal tea party. You could tell a lot of heart and love went into the party and there aren't enough words to express how much I love each of them for this. Another HUGE thanks to the Hari's for opening up their home to have the shower. Erin is about 3 weeks away from her due date, so I know having a party is a big feat for her. And what would I do without the "hired help", my photographer for the day, Ben? I don't think I would have nearly as many pictures if it weren't for him.
And to each of my guests: Mom Ko, Mom Lieu, Aunt Nina, Tara, Auntie Lily, Alexandra, Auntie Beverly, Adrienne, Baby Michala, Gma Judy, Linda, Cindy N, Cindy C and Cayla, Wai-Yee, and Melissa, thank for sharing this special day with me. You are all someone important in my life (and Mike's too)...that's why I had each of you there. I can't wait to see you all in just two weeks for our Big Day!!
wanna see pictures? check it out here.
just because I don't wanna talk about work anymore, I won't, but I do have to say that today was a much better day than yesterday. Mike said it pretty good: "it's not that you're physically tired, but you're just emotionally drained."
so on to more important things...the wedding!!!!
okay peoples, it's just 18 days away. Am I stressed? not really, more stressed over the other "W" word than I am about our Big Day. Every night when we go to bed, I look over at him and say, "this time in (fill in the blank with a number) days, we will be husband and wife." And he goes..."scary huh?"
I'm picking up my nicely pressed and steamed wedding gown next Thursday and having a day out with my BFF and MOH Jeanine. Tomorrow I'll be paying the rest of our balance for chair covers and a backdrop, then swinging over to the restaurant to pay more of the balance remaining there. RSVPs are still trickling in...yup still. Gonna try and get a pedicure tomorrow for my bridal shower this weekend and maybe even get the good old nail destroying acrylics put on too.
Mike is still on his quest to lose those last couple of pounds. He's lost at least 25 pounds in the last couple of months...and poses and flexes every morning in front of the mirror. yes, you can say he is very proud. And I am of him.
We've decided on wedding favors too. Nothing super exciting but easy for us as far as putting them together. Just need to print up some labels to give them that finishing touch.
Bachelor party is this weekend in Vegas...the city of sin and debauchery, according to Mike's friend Nirmal. Nirm wouldn't give too much detail as far as the weekend plans, which I guess is understandable since I was standing right there. But I probably shouldn't know anyway, that could only lead to bad things.
My bachelorette party is going to be decidely less crazy and more low-key...or so they tell me. I know nothing about it, just that it'll be Saturday night. No clue where we're going or what we're doing, all I said was I didn't want to see any naked skin. Although Mike did want me to get a black eye from something swinging in my face....har har har.
all in all, it sinks in a little bit more each day that Mike and I will be married really soon. With all the work crap that has been going on, everyone who cares about me has been reminding me that in a few weeks, I'll be laying on a beach with my dear husband, relaxing and just loving life that is being married.
okay so can I cry happy tears now or what??
p.s. and the putting down of my foot with 40 hours and no more...well it worked. next week I'm working 36 hours (got the weekend off too!!!) and just a mere 24 hours the week after, which also happens to be the week before the wedding. oh holy hell, how happy do you think I am??
