I've been meaning to post this, once I made the pregnancy public and I'm so glad that I caught this for the history books.
trust me, you'll be watching it again.
so an amazing thing happened today when I got of work.
it's an amazing thing because I work nights now, so when I leave work it's always dark. I left early today (this week's schedule is different), so I got to sit in traffic going home and see the sun. it was a glorious thing.
and since I'm off early today, that means I must do the wifely thing and make dinner for the husband. gotta get ready for a weekend guest this weekend too, so there will be some sheet washing tonight as well.
trying not to throw up on myself too. the "feeling" is there so I know it's coming.
and a picture of the little rugrat, the cause of my gagginess, now just under 2 inches long.
so I'm back from CHA. The trip wasn't as hard on me as I thought it would be. Friday was rough though. Early morning flight, but it just so happened that a friend of mine from pharm school was on the same flight to Chicago. Only he was going for a pharmacy meeting and was presenting a poster that weekend. The flight itself was fine, but the descent into Chicago was rough. Add turbulence to an empty stomach and nausea and you'll get dry heaving for about 5 minutes. I had to ask the guy next to me if i could have his air sickness bag. I broke out in a cold sweat and just could not wait to get off the plane and to the hotel.
That's where the slight adventure began. I jumped in a taxi with my friend and another colleague because they said the Hyatt (where I would be staying) was just down the street from them, at the Sheraton. So that was a 45 minute cab ride into the city, in commute traffic, with a cab driver that didn't turn the AC on in the car. So it was 80 degrees PLUS humidity. that was the craps. So we finally get to Chicago and....I find out I'm at the wrong Hyatt. THE WRONG HYATT. I didn't see a convention center anywhere. so what do I do? I hop BACK in a cab and take another 45 minute, $65 cab ride BACK towards the airport to the correct hotel. so I ended up just missing the entire first day of CHA.
The rest of the convention was good, not as big a show as the winter one, but a few things excited me. So luckily I was able to convince Cindee to put some of my favorite things that were available for shipment into the next few kits. I won't be returning to the Label Tulip design team after September, so I wanted to make sure I got the things I loved!
So now that I've made public the fact that I'm pregnant, I can finally start talking about how the whole thing is going! I had my second appointment today and had my second ultrasound. The baby is growing nicely, almost 5 cm long. I've had the morning sickness since the start of week 6 (I'm just over 11 weeks now), although back then it was just the nausea. As of late, I've been doing more of the oh-so-lovely dry heaving. I've been eating a lot more, and have learned that in order to keep the nausea at bay, I eat smaller meals every couple of hours. My long days at work are hardest on me, since my choices of meals are slimmer. Even though I work in a grocery store, I just don't seem to find anything I really want to eat. The pot belly is growing, although it's mostly on top and I'm attributing it to bloating and water weight. I've gained 6 pounds since my first visit, which may or may not be a lot, I don't know. But so far, so good.
the bathroom is more or less done and it looks great. Mike installed some mini blinds over the weekend, and just needs to finish up the molding along the floor and install the new air vent and ceiling fan covers.
so that's that. i think i'm gonna take a nap before I work at 5. I wish maternity leave at 2 months was an option. I am so not into work right now and cannot wait until the end of the year when I get to go out on leave...
the bathroom is coming along good. I came home from work last night and he had the bathroom painted with our chosen color....brown! I don't know the specific name but it looks nice so far. I think his next plan of action is to remove the toilet so he can paint behind it. the vanity and such will probably go in this weekend, since I'll be in Chicago for CHA and he can enlist the help of some while I'm away.
so I put up a little album on the side for you to see the progression of our little project. some of the pictures may or may not show up. I've got to get to work so I'll have to deal with it later. I think you'll get the idea.
and not to end without a picture (or two), Mike and I got to visit with my college roommate and her hubby and their new baby girl Emi this weekend. so excited for them! Emi was born on our wedding anniversary, May 12, so that's another birthday I'm sure not to forget!
have a great week and happy first birthday Label Tulip!! it's been a great year!
**I updated the album with more pictures. I got home and Mike had the cabinet and countertop installed!**
I'm also hosting a challenge over at Label Tulip today, since we're in the middle of a birthday celebration. LT will be turning one on Tuesday, so there's a whole 5 days worth of fun over on the site. if you have time and the inspiration, come join in the fun!!
so it's another Saturday and what have we got planned?
possibly some home improvement. now that our shower is finished, it's about that time to get started on the rest of it. Mike was off yesterday (his regular Friday off fell on July 4th, so he took his "holiday" off yesterday), so we enlisted some local help (thanks Nirm!) to go buy our new bathroom vanity and granite countertop. We had to go to another store location to get the matching mirror, but we're just about set. We also have a paint color in mind, which I think is almost finalized.
here's the before:
if we're lucky, and Mike works fast, we just might be able to share the after soon. stay tuned!
as Mike snores away (yes, he's the one napping now, but I only just woke up), I thought I'd update the blog.
we spent the earlier part of the Fourth either at home (me) or helping put in a bathroom vanity (Mike). My July Label Tulip kit came in and I finally broke into it. Haven't created with it yet, but maybe tomorrow.
For the later part of the Fourth we headed over to the Chens for a second year in a row. We barbecued (yum, grilled corn) and headed over to a local park for their community Fourth of July celebration. We found a spot in the grass that was pretty much where we sat last year, us lucky bastards. We're looking a little tired and raggedy, but it was hot out. The fireworks started at 9:15pm and with my handy point-and-shoot, I was able to capture a few.
today, we just relaxed. We've been busy the last few weekends that I think we needed a quiet weekend to enjoy for once. Started the morning with a dim sum breakfast and then worked it off by walking the grounds of our local Target. how will we spend the evening? not sure, but you can bet there will be eating and more sleeping and tv watching involved. that's a good weekend right??
here's a video I took of the ending of the fireworks show too. god, I love my camera.
so it has been brought to my attention...*coughcoughErincoughcough*...that I have been slacking in the blog department.
it's been a week since I've checked in. there are reasons for that, but I won't bore you with those.
so I will be back soon with an update on the Lieu household.
but since no post is ever more exciting than one with a picture, here is one from the weekend parental visit we just had.
the papaloo turned 60 yesterday. still looking good Dad!! and my parents also celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Saturday as well. it was a weekend for celebrations, that's for sure.
