so sweet

 IMG_6088

found this in Keira's room this morning.

IMG_6089

the cutting of the teeth leads her to waking up at night, screaming her head off.  we assume that she's in pain and give her infant acetaminophen, or maybe she's hungry and feed her.  usually, the feeding thing is the answer.

IMG_6090

Mike and I usually take turns at night with her, and Mike ended up with the later shift.  probably too tired to wait for her to fall asleep and put her back in her crib, they ended up having a slumber party instead.  it's so cute to see them together like this.

we're both hoping this fussy time is nice and short-lived.  and that it doesn't happen every time a new tooth decides to sprout...ugh.

Super Fair

IMG_6079

Mike and I were both off today, and since it was the first day of the OC Super Fair, we decided to make a day of it and head over there.  We found out the Chens were going too, which made it even more fun (they're our Fair partners in crime).  Every year, the fair offers free admission for the first hour that it is open and we thought we would attempt to get in during that time.  Lucky for us, the Chens were in line already and really close to the entrance so we snuck into line with them.

First things first...food.  you can't go to a county fair without indulging in greasy, totally unhealthy but majorly scrumptious fair food, can you?  we opted for a Texas sized turkey leg,a cheeseburger and some fries.  I'm not sure why we didn't branch out more and go for the fried spaghetti (Cindy's first choice), or some deep fried White Castle burgers.  we might've been saving room for dessert...which we ended up not even having!

IMG_6066 IMG_6069

we headed over to the mini big top to watch the circus next, where Keira lasted for all of 15 minutes before falling asleep.  we walked around a bit more to let her nap, bought some Rainier cherries and a pineapple to take home and eventually parted ways with the Chens.

IMG_6087

one thing I've been wanting to do for a while is take some photobooth pictures of the three of us.  they had lots of photobooths at the fair and I wouldn't let us leave without taking some.  we were cracking up at Keira's expressions, she looks pissed off in the first 3 but finally broke a tiny grin in the last one.

IMG_6080

we have something exciting to report...Keira is cutting her very first tooth!  if you rub her lower gums, you can feel the top of her middle right tooth.  and the left one is not far behind!  once in a while Mike will give me a report card as to how Keira did that day and apparently she was fussy all day Tuesday (the day she turned 5 months).  well, now we know the reason why!!  as exciting as this is, it's also a bit sad...our little girl is growing up so darn fast!

Keira is learning to sit on her own now, and she can do it for a minute or so before toppling over.  sometimes, when we "tripod" her with her arms in front of her, she'll bend over and put her head to the ground and then push herself back up.

another new thing Keira is doing now is grunting or growling like a dog.  We're not sure where she got this from, but we like to joke that she is imitating Mike's dad when he snores.

she's sleeping unswaddled now too, which is probably a good thing now that we're in the heat of summer.

3 day weekends are the best...and thankfully, we still have 2 more days left!  have a good one!

sorry about the red X's on that last post.  they're supposed to be some new videos of the kiddo, but I guess the code embedding didn't quite work.  so here are the links to them directly:

bikini baby

Keira went to her first pool party today!  We celebrated Cayla's 3rd birthday at the local water park and I think we all had a great time!  I was super excited to take Keira, I couldn't wait to get her into her cute new bathing suit.  the cool thing is that there's a diaper lining built right into the bikini bottom.  I'm all for that, but she still wore a disposable swim diaper underneath (thanks Cindy!).

IMG_5967 IMG_5969

We eased Keira into the water, rather than just throw her right in.  she sat in our laps at first, getting used to the temperature of the water.  We figured she would enjoy the water since she loves bathtime so much, and she did.

IMG_5976 IMG_5974

we brought along our own little canopy to lay under.  it provided some good shade from the hot 90 degree weather we were having.

after a little food and a short nap...

...it was back in the water!!

happy birthday to our lovely goddaughter Cayla and thanks for inviting Keira to your party!  we can't wait to come over again!

Saturday = fun day

this morning:

IMG_5905

"do I have something on my face?"

I gave Keira some rice cereal this morning, and made it a bit thicker than normal.  for the most part, she got the hang of it and would even reach for the spoon and open her mouth when she wanted more.  I think I made about an ounce worth and she ate the whole thing.  there's something about a baby with food all over their face...

we decided to go on a family outing today to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.  Adult admission is normally $23.95, but a friend of ours gave us a coupon for $10 adult admission.  score!!

IMG_5920

there was a lot of people at the aquarium and we had brought our stroller with us.  we ended up Bjorning her most of the time since it was easier for us to cruise the crowds that way.

IMG_5930

it was Mike's first time at the Aquarium (I went there a while back when it first opened), so he got up close and personal with the stingrays and horn sharks.

IMG_5937

Keira smells something fishy.  must be the sharks on the other side of the glass in front of us.

IMG_5947

since Mike is such the fish know-it-all, I suggested that he carry Keira so that he can talk to her and tell her about all the different fish we saw.  one day, these two will be having some father-daughter time on a fishing boat, catching some fish of their own.

the Aquarium isn't that big, and we were able to walk a majority of it in about 2 hours.  We pretty much agreed that it's not worth the $23.95 per adult price tag and were glad that we only spent $20 for both of us to get in.

We were getting hungry at this point and had lunch at the Yard House at Shoreline Village.  Keira was getting tired (and we knew this) so we walked along the water for a bit so that she could take a little nap.  poor kid was all tuckered out.

IMG_5950

and since we were somewhat in the area, we stopped by 2nd Street on our way home to grab one of these:

IMG_5952

it's an ice cream filled cupcake from Frosted Cupcakery.  we opted for the chocolate chocolate with mint chip ice cream.  the frosting was a bit much, but the ice cream hit the spot.  we ordered two cupcakes to go, the strawberry lemonade (flavor of the month) and the chocolate caramel toffee.  I ended up pretty darn disappointed when we got home because one of the cupcakes was the WRONG ONE!!  instead of the strawberry lemonade (which I was dying to try and knew I shouldn't have because of Keira's skin sensitivity to citrus) one that I requested, they put a chocolate one in the bag.  I would've gone back for the right one if the place wasn't so darn far.  and since the end of the month is coming up, I probably won't get to try it at all.

Mike and I were being extra gluttonous at the moment and walked across the street to Yogurtland.  yes, I know what you're thinking.  yes, we did just have an ice cream filled cupcake.  and yes, we were going to eat some frozen yogurt too.  it's the weekend and we're allowed okay?

overall, we had a really nice day.  As busy as we have been the last few weekends, it probably would've been a nice idea to lay around like slugs all day and accomplish nothing.  but instead, we spent some quality family time together...and nothing is better than that.

June 26, 2009

my right now

I was reading Ali Edwards' blog the other day and she challenged her readers to document their "right now".  so here is mine:

IMG_5886

right now there is a load of laundry washing and another drying and another sitting on the bed waiting to be folded.

right now the sliding door is open to the let fresh air in and the fan is blowing lightly as well.

right now the baby is asleep and her mommy is hoping she'll stay that way for a little bit.

right now I am glad to be back in my own little home and that the weekend is finally here.

right now I have little interest in catching up on what lies waiting on the DVR but would rather just sit and bask in the silence that surrounds me.

right now I realize how much needs to be done today yet haven't gotten my brain prepared to do it all.

right now I am wearing my new khaki bermuda shorts and love them so.

right now I'm thinking how nice it would be to have the hubby at home today especially with how hard he has been busting his behind all week.

right now...is right now.

June 21, 2009

she is blessed

(I've been forbidden to post any pictures from today until my dad goes through and proofs his photos, but I can't help but post just one...or two.)

Keira was baptized today into God's family.  We feel so lucky to have had Father Tom baptize her, as he was the one who married Mike and I.  He kept things light and easy going, and even brought a little humor into such a joyous day.

IMG_2550

our BFFs Jeanine and Vince honored us by agreeing to be Keira's godparents.  Jeanine was our Matron of Honor and Vince was our Best Man when we got married, so we love that they are now a part of Keira's spiritual life.  Jeanine made it just in time for Keira's turn at the baptismal font, she was stuck in traffic on the way up from San Diego!  and when I opened up the card from Vince and saw how much he wrote, I knew I was going to cry.  Mike and I are so lucky to have them in our lives.

another special part of the day was the gown that Keira wore.  The gown was also worn by her two older cousins Ashley and Nicole when they were baptized.  It'll be something special the 3 of them will always share!

Thanks to all who came to celebrate this special occasion with us: Keira's godparents, my parents, Mike's parents, the Buis, the Floums, the Lieus, the Chens, the Lees, my brother and my cousin Jason.

and just because...a family picture.

Happy Baptism Day Keira...may God bless you and keep you always!
